About Greenland Retreat Centre
Greenland is 18 acres of mixed meadows and woods on the edge of Dartmoor, bordering the open moor and common land above Buckfastleigh. We are in the early stages of rewilding the land, introducing management practises designed to increase biodiversity and ecosystem complexity; but we also hope the land will be a space for people to reconnect with nature and explore the magic of the moor. We offer a unique private campsite ideal for transformative work in nature with easy walking access to the wilds of Dartmoor.
The set up is basic and simple. The are two water taps providing treated spring water from the land. We have a beautifully made compost toilet for participants. We can help you arrange delivery of firewood from a local supplier.
The land is available to hire for private nature connection retreats at a cost of £100 / day.
Adders Holt and the Long Marsh
An additional private area of land, Adders Holt and the Long Marsh, owned by our neighbours is available by arrangement for groups needing a little more space. This is a very beautiful, wild and biodiverse piece of land which is ideal for peaceful, contemplation and safe solo time in nature. Use of the land is possible by prior arrangement only.
Group Shelter
We offer use of our group shelter for bookings. It is a 8m wide circular tent comfortable for group work. It has a central supporting tripod within which you may light a fire. The central smoke hole is covered with a cowl that keeps the tent dry. We charge a modest fee for use of the tent to cover set up, pack away and wear and tear.
Sauna
Our wonderful neighbour offers rented access to her wood fired sauna for users of Greenland Retreat Centre. The sauna is located right on the edge of the moor with views of Pupers Tor. It has a capacity of 9 (spacious) up to 12 (getting cosy!). Larger groups can be accommodated by rotating and sitting outside around the fire. There is a cold spring water shower to cool off.
Booking terms and conditions
Basic fee of £100 / day covers use of the land.
Group shelter for events, flat fee of £200 plus £25 / day. This covers our costs in set up, pack down, and wear and tear.
Use of Adders Holt and the Long Marsh by separate arrangement and separate contract with the land owner. Numbers are limited. Cost £130 for use over 3 days.
We can only use the land for 28 days each year, so cancellations really impact us and prevent this land from getting used for brilliant work. As a result, we ask for a 15% deposit to secure your booking. If you cancel the event with less than 2 months notice, the deposit is non-refundable, otherwise it will be refunded in full.
All waste and recycling to be removed by the event organiser.
We accept no liability for harm or injury experienced by participants using our land for your events, and we expect all hirers to have adequate public and professional liability insurance in place for your event.
